With the rotary spreader I had breaking after years of reliable service I was looking at replacing it with the same. But with recent landscaping changes my lawn wasn't as big as it used to be so a big rotary or drop spreader really wasn't needed. So I looked fir a hand held spreader and purchased this from Shoppers + for a good price. I was surprised how well this hand cranked spreader worked and really for years was all I needed. I contemplated getting the Scott's battery powered hand held spreader but that was something that would probably fail in time I thought. This spreader is sturdy and appears well built. The crank and gearing are smooth as is the hopper gate that's calibrated with a rotary dial like the big Scott's spreader I had. The product spread is about 5 feet and my fear of filling my shoes with fertilizer using it was unfounded as the user is shielded by the body of the spreader. All in all I'm quite impressed with the Scott's hand held spreader and the pricing at shoppers + was very good.

Cheaper than at the hardware store!
