Hello Alan, Thank you for your feedback! For a portable label printer, it does require quite a bit of energy to work hence why many batteries. This particular one can also use an AC power adapter which is sold separately (model "Brother-AD24ESA" on our website) if that's more convenient. I bought it for my block heater, instead of setting a single time setting with my digital block heater timer, I bought this to set different time and love the on and off feature over wifi! Hopefully this works when it's 20 under!

I bought this to replace my existing single USB port car charger, my spouse and I always have to fight over who gets to charge their phone when we are in the car.
