The eco-conscious and frugal buyer will be attracted to this option, but be warned, it's work, and sometimes messy work at that. It's not a fun process, and as other reviewers noted, the instructions are garbled, hard to understand with "not-quite-English" turns of phrase. But you can figure out the gist of it by looking at the principle of the whole set-up. I don't believe there's any circumstance in which the cartridge is filled on the first or even the second round; it took me three, and I have so far printed only 6-8 pages, so we'll see how full it actually got. The printer will read empty cartridge the whole time, so if you need to rely on the cartridge for a large print run, don't use this product. Otherwise, it remains to be seen if the extra effort actually results in enough printable pages to justify it - "up to 8 refills" sounds wildly optimistic. Better than the colour refill, which was an unworkable nightmare.

I had read the warnings in other reviews but thought I could, with some patience, get it to work. Absolute nightmare. This was a tri-colour cartridge, requiring three holes to be drilled, and each colour suctioned in turn. First problem: the rubber tips on each of the ink needles were on so tightly that in pulling them off, it lifted the entire needle apparatus out of the ink chamber and splatted ink everywhere. There was nothing to stop one colour's ink from leaking into the next at that point. I thought I could live with a little cross-contamination, so kept going. One of the rubber tips tore apart rather than come off. The whole handling of those three sharp needles in close quarters is dangerous and good luck not skewering yourself. I had managed the black ink okay, even though it took several tries. The colour - no such luck. The first draw actually sucked a bunch of ink into the syringe, which isn't supposed to happen. (Yes I followed all the instructions, and released the pressure first.) Then the ink started foaming as air was being pulled into the chamber from the syringe. (Yes, I followed the instructions and carefully removed all the paper away from the hole edges on the cartridge so it could form a proper seal.) This meant there was no negative pressure to pull the syringe down, and as I found out, "helping" it by pushing lightly just squirted the ink back up into the area around the needles where it oozed into the other colour chambers. I then bravely tried just injecting the ink into the cartridge holes with my own syringe. Messy, ineffective. So back to trying to the instructed way. After about an hour I managed to get enough blue and magenta to print with, but yellow was just a big fat no. No point in partial colour. I tried again the next day, nope. It just foamed and foamed and foamed yellow everywhere but into the cartridge. So I can't recommend this product. The black works okay, not on the first try (not if you want to print more than a half-page, anyhow), but the tri-colour ink set-up is dreadful.
