Item was as described, requires 3 x AAA and 2 x AA batteries. The toy cruises along just fine, a little awkward to navigate but the cats enjoy it just fine. No issues with the packaging like other reviewers have mentioned. The toy was a little larger than expected and is also a little loud when operating. Fun gift for under ten dollars.
