My printer tells me that it's only 1/4 full on all colors why???

This colour cartridge itself appears to be working all right. The big problem is that the black cartridges are not printing properly and require individual, or combinations of, or all of the following procedures repeatedly to obtain an acceptably printed page: Printhead cleaning, printer calibration, nozzle correction and test page printing. This is not only time consuming but sucks a cartridge dry very quickly, and in the end makes it much more expensive than a pricey EOM product.

Each time I power up the machine the screen says ERROR - 'Printhead missing, not installed or has come loose. Install printhead and ink cartridges. If already installed remove ink cartridges and printhead and re-install'. I take out the ink cartridge and re-install it and the machine works fine, until the next time. Seems like it doesn't fit perfectly.
