Junk, do not plan to use on a Blu-ray player or 4K TV.

I bought this product to connect my laptop to my tv, which is not a smart tv. My laptop does not have an HDMI interface. I was hoping to power my tv with my laptop as I use the internet. It did not work and I am not sure why.

Never worked. My newer laptop has just VGA and USB ports. I know the VGA port on the laptop works as I tested it using an external monitor. I know the HDMI port on both of my TVs , Toshiba and Panasonic, work as my cable boxes are connected to the TV that way. Connected the cable to the VGA and USB ports on the laptop and plugged into the TV. And got nothing. After several attempts I gave up on the cable and went back to using my old laptop that had s-video output. The adapter cable is junk.
