I am surprised how big the size of this unit, and it requires 6 AAA batteries!

Hello Alan, Thank you for your feedback! For a portable label printer, it does require quite a bit of energy to work hence why many batteries. This particular one can also use an AC power adapter which is sold separately (model "Brother-AD24ESA" on our website) if that's more convenient. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact our customer service!

Disappointed that this item which requires 6 batteries or a ac adapater neither came with the unit and has to be purchased separately. The Ac adapter costs more then the label maker which is also a great disappointment.
