This is a relatively simple tube amplifier, similar in performance to early ‘Champ’-style amps. The sound gets gritty at half volume, and has a real ‘roar’ with the volume dimed. If you are looking for high volume with high head-room, this isn’t that amp. But at lower volumes, especially in the 1 watt setting, it has a warm tube sound. Blues players, some rock, country & experimental players will enjoy this amp. Metal & jazz players may find it too limited. I’m using it for country-rock lap steel, and experimental ambient music and it seems to work well with both. I may buy another to use in stereo with my effects set-up(straight in, as the amp has no effects loop. I would also consider using the speaker-out to drive a larger cabinet. This would address the relatively low volume produced by the basic amp. I think the speaker will improve with break-in over time as it has a bit of crackle at louder volumes. Pros: One good sound—good at what it does Good for apartment practice & home recording Good for practice & small jams Good for modding Cons: low head room—clean sound rapidly disappears Lacks versatility in range of sound Recommended, with caveats
