The silicone on the front surface gives some stability and protection for the back of your devices. It may not be clear from the description, but there is a "button" in the middle which you press to adjust the height, and acts like a lock when you release it. While they put the silicone padding on the front "leg", they skimped out on doing the same for the back. It would have been minimal cost, and would have added to the stability, as well as protecting the surface of whatever you are standing this on. A very minor nitpick is that there are only 2 heights - you can't stop it at a height in between to the two settings, in case you need a specific height.

Excellent stand for both a tablet and a phone. Purchased 2 for use in the home office and at university. Built well and the adjustable angle is a great feature. Very good angle for use with an iPad when chatting via FaceTime. The stand collapses to a very thin profile which is good for travel use. Overall very happy with the purchase.

Bought two because the price was great and I thought I would gift one. Turns out I kept both and use one upstairs and one downstairs.
