I lost my gamble on this where I was hoping that it would still output/support HDMI output AND another video output from one of the other USB-C ports from my MBP

Unfortunately this design does not fit well even if you have a very slim case on your laptop with ports exposed and my particular unit was defective and did not function at all out of the box. Fortunately Shopper+ has excellent service and they made the return/refund easy.
