10" LED Selfie Ring Light With 47" Retractable Tripod For Makeup Live Streaming
First off, the price is quite good for what you get! But of course for that price it won't be super professional quality, that's expected... (Except for the ball head, which feels like a standard part of good quality) // My first reactions were: 1) the tripod is quite short (don't get fooled by some of the pictures), 47" would be when fully-FULLY extended at the top of the rotating ball head, but it feels a bit more stable slightly shorter (the legs at their largest, the cylinders a bit retracted), I'd say it's 5" less (so, yeah, maybe 47" at the center of the ring, which for most adult would be about chest-high). It really depends on what you want to do with it, but since it's an indoor tripod (I would not use it on a rugged terrain), it not that much an issue if you can put it on an higher flat surface. // 2) As many other comments mention, the tripod feels quite flimsy. The main problem is that there's only one point of contact between the cylinders, and it's the rubbery plastic tightening bit. It can be improved at lot by adding a sort-of o-ring at the bottom of the inner cylinders (I simply used a "green onion" rubber band and tight electrical tape, and rubbing alcool to clean the cylinders beforehand), and also re-tightening the screws. Now it's much more stable. Note also that there is a cheaper version with just a mini-tripod, and the fittings are standard 1/4" nuts. // 3) The little phone holder is nice and has a surprisingly tight grip (and also a 1/4" nut size), but it's range of motion (or maximum bend) is limited. As shown in the pictures with an angle, the phone must be quite *in front* of the ring, which depending on your usage and phone size, might cause some shadows. // 4) The light ring is not super bright. Don't expect it to make a big difference, even at maximum brightness, inside at daylight luminosity or even overcast (it's not a photographer's lighting), but it does a good job in darker settings. // 5) There are a lot of color settings and effects, but you can only switch forward between all of them, so don't miss the one you want! At least it's nice that it remembers your last setting of white temperature and color (that you control independently), and that you can switch directly between the two. That's my main usage anyway. // So, in conclusion, I'm not sure I would recommend it for what it's intended for, although it's fun, but definitely not for anything serious. But in my case I ended up combining it with the scissor arm from PrimeCables' microphone suspension boom (Cab-GZA-00223, with a bit of tinkering) to use it as a workbench close-up light, and I like it a lot! The inner hole of 8 inch is perfect, and the luminosity/temperature options are nice to have. And I can quickly turn it into an ambiance or photography lighting when needed! :-)
